Roberta “Berti” S. Slyker, 76, of Sandusky, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 in Portland Place following a brief illness.
She was born on June 22, 1942 in Sandusky to the late Robert W. and Aileen M. (Herbig) Slyker. A 1960 graduate of Sandusky High, Berti attended Kent State, University of Mexico City, and Toledo Travel School, obtaining her associate’s degree.
She worked more than 40 years for Sandusky Travel Service, a company that her family owned, eventually owning it herself. She traveled the world. She volunteered for Erie Metroparks, was an avid bird watcher, loved roller coasters, gardening, her cats, and her family and friends.
Berti is survived by her brother, Richard (Becky) Slyker, of Sandusky; niece, Susan (Christopher) Wynn, of Cleveland; great-nephew, Nathan Wynn; many cousins and friends; best friend, Judi Wright, of Sandusky; and beloved cats, Beau and Toby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Anton “Tony” Slyker; and an infant sister.
Berti’s wishes were to be cremated. Private burial will take place in Oakland Cemetery. A memorial service celebrating her life will be announced at a later date.
