Kenneth Wray West, 78, of Sandusky, passed away after an illness on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 in Stein Hospice Care Center.
Ken was born on September 7, 1939 in Charleroi, Pennsylvania to Jeanne (Deprez) West and John Dale Nogy. He was adopted by his step-father, Jack West, in 1947.
He graduated from Euclid Senior High School in 1957 and earned an Associate’s Degree in Accounting in 1959 from Dyke College in Cleveland, Ohio.
Ken was a Manager of Plant Accounting and Master Production Scheduler for the General Electric Company for 23 years from 1965-1988. He began and ended his GE career at the Tungsten Road plant in Euclid, OH, but spent the bulk of his years at the Jefferson (Ohio) Welds Plant from 1970 through the plant’s closure in 1984. Prior to his career at GE he was a Cost Estimator for The Chardon Rubber Company.
Ken was a member of the Jefferson Jaycees and was one of the founders of the Grand River Midget Football Conference in 1975. He received an Outstanding Service Award from the Jaycees in 1977.
He was a lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan and enjoyed model trains and family genealogy.
Ken will be greatly missed by his three children, Dan (Jamie) West of Rochester, MN, Jeff (Robyn) West, of Sandusky, and Karyn Jensen of Bay Village, OH; and three grandchildren, Dalton West, Jacy West and Margaux Jensen. He was also very close to, and is survived by his aunt, Martha McGuire of Charleroi, PA; brother, Richard (Kitty) West, of Colorado Springs, CO; and sisters, Linda (Tom) Schumann, of Jefferson City, TN, and Janice (Tom) Gangwer, of Knoxville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Jeanne West.
At his request, there will be no memorial service. Cremation will take place. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is handling arrangements.
