Mary Ellen Ricci, 75, residing in the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, March 7, 2018, after a brief illness.
She was born on August 14, 1942 in Cleveland to the late Robert and Mary Ellen (Madden) Lynch. She loved to travel, and her time with the Army Nurse Corps included a stint in Ethiopia, where she was proud to have dined with Emperor Haile Selassie. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Cleveland Indians and the San Antonio Spurs. In the mid-80s, she competed on Wheel of Fortune (“Lorne Greene” was the puzzle she solved.). She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, and crocheting. But family was most important, and her favorite moments were spent with them.
Mary is survived by her sons, James Ricci, of Cleveland, and Patrick (Jennifer) Ricci, of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Audrey and Alec; sister, Kathleen [PR1] Hanko; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and her OVH family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, in the Ohio Veterans Home Giffin Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12 p.m., and a military service will follow. Burial will take place in the Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the OVH Resident Benefit Fund, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870.
